My Thoughts (4 stars):
Considering that this is Jennifer Martinez's first novel, she certainly has a successful writing career ahead of her. Don't Kill Dinner is book 1 in a 3 book series, 'The Rules Trilogy'. Don't Kill Dinner is a fast paced read, but doesn't feel too rushed. I enjoyed the fact that the book is fast paced, there isn't too much lolly gagging around with unimportant details to fill page space like we sometimes see. The story line is intriguing and unpredictable. The two main characters Kenna and Arthur are SMEXY (Smart & Sexy) Vampires.
Kenna is this smart, tough, independent, amazing chick who wants to save humanity in her beloved city.
Arthur is an intelligent, wise, and loyal guy who is kind of stuck between tradition, rules, laws and his soul mate.

I haven't always been a paranormal reader, but it is a genre that I have completely fallen in love with. It's really hard not to, when the stories are full of amazing characters & story lines, excitement, suspense, and mystery! Not to mention that Vampires can be sexy as hell and completely swoon worthy.
So, even if you aren't typically a paranormal/fantasy/supernatural reader, I urge you to read this book...and see how amazing this other world can be!

Kudos to Jennifer Martinez for a job well done! I truly enjoyed DKD!

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Shattered Promises by Jessica Sorensen

Shattered Promises
By: Jessica Sorensen

Blurb (from Goodreads):
**Mature Content Warning** 17+ for language and sexual content.

(A re-imagining of The Fallen Star told as a New Adult Paranormal)

For twenty-one year-old Gemma, life has never been normal. She knows nothing about her past and has been haunted by the same monsters in her nightmares for the last few months. Unemotional and numb to life, she feels disconnected from everyone. Until the very first day she cries. After that, nothing in her life is the same.

Her emotions slowly surface and she starts experiencing love, happiness, and anger, feelings she never knew existed. But they leave her confused and she doesn’t know whether to embrace them or run away from them.

Her life only gets more complicated when she meets Alex. Sexy, arrogant, and secretive, Alex can get under Gemma’s skin like no one can. Yet she’s drawn to him by an invisible connection she has no control over. She’s also seen him before. In her nightmares.

Every part of Gemma’s mind is screaming at her to stay away from Alex, but every other part of her is begging to get close to him. But the closer she gets, the more she realizes Alex knows more about her than he originally let on.

As secrets about her past unravel, Gemma’s life becomes threatened. She needs to figure out what’s going on, before she winds up dead. But the only person she can turn to for answers is the one person she isn’t sure she can trust.

Author Bio:
The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessica Sorensen, lives in the snowy mountains of Wyoming. When she's not writing, she spends her time reading and hanging out with her family.

My Thoughts (4.5 Stars):
To begin with, I'd like to say that I am a huge fan of The Fallen Star series and Jessica Sorensen's writing in general! The Fallen Star series is one of the first paranormal super natural/fantasy romance books I read last year when I first found my passion for reading. I was excited when Jessica announced that she would be releasing an adult version/re-imaging of The Fallen Star series.

Shattered Promises is every bit as good as the original story and then some. You do not have to read the first Fallen Star series before reading Shattered Promises. If you're like me and have read the original series, don't worry that it'll be the same story told re-told. The characters are the same and there is some familiarity with the story, but it is a nice story in its self. I really enjoyed revisiting and reconnecting with the characters that I grew to love in the first series.

In the Fallen Star series I so badly wanted Alex and Gemma to have a physical connection. I kept wanting Alex to make a move on Gemma, but it just wasn't a part of that story. Shattered Promises on the other hand provides the reader with that missing piece, if you will.

In Shattered Promises, Alex wants to do the 'right' thing, but he's not exactly sure what is the right thing to do. Should he do what he wants or what his father, Stephan tells him is the 'right' thing to do. He was raised and trained to be unemotional, not to act on feelings because giving into emotions is weakness, according to Stephan. Alex is basically brainwashed by his father.

Alex and Gemma are a custom to feeling zero emotions, but when they're together it's impossible for them to ignore the ever so present and intense feelings that run through their bodies. Both are somewhat unsure of what to do with those emotions run from them, try their best to ignore them, or act on them.

If you like books that are intriguing, mysterious, have amazing characters and are out of this world good...this is the book for you! :)

Keep a look out for Book 2, Fractured Souls...

Review & Exclusive Excerpt: Armando Returns by Reeni Austin

I Love the Cover of Armando Returns!
It's the Perfect image to reflect their intense Love & Need for one another.
Plus I Love the use of purple on a book cover. :)

Book description:
Their secret wedding should have been the happiest event of their lives. Armando Barboza and Katie McCormack were both eighteen years old and fresh out of high school when Katie's father brutally ripped them apart.
Ten years later, a simple phone call turns Armando's life upside down and sends him running home to find her.
Who will Katie choose? The man whose ring she wears, or the high school sweetheart whose loss shattered her world?

My Review (5 Stars):
Recap of book 1- Armando Returns is book 2 in the Barboza Brothers series by Reeni Austin. In book 1, Fresh Temptation we met Cara, Victor, and Cara's young son Isaac. I immediately liked Cara because she is a hard working, sweet yet tough, down to earth, single mother who loves her child boundlessly. I was swooned by Victor Barboza a wealthy, powerful, and in charge alpha male with a kind soul, who knows and understands the meaning of true love. As for precious little Isaac, you can't help but love that little guy. With his sweet little pronunciations of words, like: Bictow or Victor...he's just so cute, you want to hug him! If you're anything like me, at the end of Fresh Temptation you wanted to know more about Cara & Victor's story and where their love leads them.
I was pleasantly pleased to discover that Reeni Austin incorporates the continuation of Cara and Victor's story in Armando Returns. I was even more pleased with how their love story blossomed
Book 2 Intro- We are introduced to Armando Barboza and Katie McCormack as two love struck eighteen year old's who are desperate to be together, regardless of what their families say. While en route to their secretly planned wedding, Katie's father intervenes ripping them a part and forbidding them to ever see each other again.
Although, it's extremely painful and it feels as though they have no other options, both try their best to move forwards with their lives.
...but
Is it possible to ever forget your soul-mate
Is it possible to allow yourself to love again, when you know that person is out there somewhere?
Katie and Armando have ten years to learn to live without each other before fate intervenes in their lives once again. This time bringing them front and center in each other's lives. But, the circumstances are much different for both of them this time around.
How I perceived Armando:
Armando, Armando, Armando...Oh, how I love Armando's character. He is a tall, lean, muscular, hardworking, kind, loving, and wealthy man of Hispanic descent. The term Tall, Dark, and Handsome fits him quite well. His intense need to love and protect Katie is heart-touchingly beautiful. He's very much a respectable stand up guy...which I completely love.
How I perceived Katie:
Katie is from a prominent family in their small Texas town. Her well to do background doesn't negatively affect her moral character as many might assume; she's not a snob. She is educated, kind, hardworking, loving, down to earth, beautiful, intelligent, but slightly naive. I really like Katie's character and think she is perfect for Armando.
In Closing- Fresh Temptation and Armando Returns are for the most part light-hearted romance stories with a little added spice. That being said, there is depth in the story line and in the characters.
Armando Returns is a story of true undying love, the loss of that love, and the chance to reclaim that love, which was never truly lost and certainly not forgotten.

There are some intense scenes in this book that made my chest to tighten with anxiousness and/or anger, sadness and happiness. It's truly a beautiful, well written romance and I highly recommend it to all.
If you haven't already done so be sure to read book 1 Fresh Temptation too.

Armando Returns will be available for purchase very soon.
 Excerpt:
“I’ll be back in a minute, baby.” Armando cupped Katie’s chin and gave her a playful smile. “Don’t you go anywhere.” He winked, then kissed her. He added a quick, “I love you,” before opening the door to exit the car.
“Hurry!” Katie giggled with pure glee as she watched her sexy fiance rush to the little convenience store—the first store they had seen in miles in this dry, dusty Texas landscape.
It was exactly one week after graduation. The day they looked forward to for months was finally here. With only Armando’s car, a few suitcases, and their entire combined savings of three thousand dollars, they were halfway to New Mexico where they had an appointment with a judge to get married at a courthouse. A courthouse far from Katie’s father’s jurisdiction as a judge.
Katie had never been so happy. They were three hours away from home, with three and a half more hours to go until they reached their destination. She would soon be Mrs. Armando Barboza and there was nothing anyone could do to stop her. She planned to call her parents in a few days. By her estimation, her phone call would arrive around the same time they realized she hadn’t taken that trip to Galveston with the girls from the church youth group. And by then, she and Armando would be on their honeymoon at a cozy little bed and breakfast.
Smiling, she gazed inside the store. She tucked a lock of her thick red hair behind her ear and turned her entire body to watch him chat with the cashier inside the store. Every minute away from him was an eternity. She imagined those strong arms wrapped around her. Succumbing to his kiss. Quenching their need for each other with nobody around to stop them.
Tonight they could finally make love without feeling guilty. They would be husband and wife. No more sneaking around. No more lying.
They would be free.
She watched Armando, entranced. Too swept up in her daydream to give more than a passing thought to the vehicle she heard pulling up beside the car. She saw Armando’s jaw drop, then he stormed outside just as she heard an angry voice barely muffled by the closed window and the hum of the air-conditioner.
“Get out of that car right now or I’ll break that damn window and drag you out!”
Katie’s stomach tied up in one painful knot. Her perfect fantasy shred into a million pieces at the sound of her father’s rage.
This wasn’t part of the plan. They were supposed to be a safe seven hours away and married for a few days before she broke the news to Daddy. Mustering her anger, she sat up, crossed her arms over her chest and stared straight ahead, desperate to avoid his stare. She was just about to scream at him when she was interrupted by Armando’s voice.
“Whatta you think you’re doin’?” Armando dropped the small bag of items he had just purchased and broke into a sprint. “Get away from—”
Katie turned abruptly to the sound of her father’s fist now pounding against the door, just below the window.
Armando met the unexpected visitor just as his arm was high in the air, ready for another blow against the metal. “That’s enough!” Armando pressed his palms against Mr. McCormack’s shoulders with a violent shove, sending the tall, lanky man back a few paces, landing him on his knee as he braced his fall. “We’re both eighteen! You can’t keep us apart anymore!”
Dwayne McCormack scrambled to his feet. “Really, now?” He rushed forward to pin Armando against the rear window. “You think it’s smart to hit a judge, boy? You know what I could do to you?”
Katie’s eyes filled with tears as she opened her door and stepped outside. “Daddy! Stop!”

Blog Tour: Play With Me by Kristen Proby

One of my all time favorite book covers! It's perfection!
Title: Play With Me (With me in Seattle #3)
Author: Kristen Proby
Release Date: March 1, 2013

Book Description:
Will Montgomery is a successful professional football player and seemingly has it all. He’s not used to being told no, and certainly doesn’t take no for an answer. So when he turns his charms on his sister’s sexy rocker-chick friend Meg, he’s not only turned down, but met with open hostility, piquing his curiosity and libido. He’s determined to show her that he’s not the arrogant jock she thinks he is, and to get her into his bed.

Megan McBride is not impressed with Will Montgomery, his fat contract, fancy car, or his arrogant public persona. She doesn't have time for a relationship, and if she’s learned anything in life, it’s that loving means losing, so she guards her heart ferociously. But she can’t deny the overwhelming attraction to the sexy, tattooed athlete, and when Will starts breaking down her defenses and grabs hold of her heart, will she be able to admit her feelings for him, or will her troubled past cause her to lose the first man she’s ever truly loved?

My Thoughts (5 Stars):
When the the cover of Play With Me was revealed, I thought WOW! Now this cover is absolute PERFECTION! I can't say how much I love the cover of Play With Me...

Now, that I've read it, I can honestly say that the story is every bit as good as the book cover!

My perception of Will Montgomery: Oh, gorgeous, kind, loving, strong, sweet, protective, sexy as hell alpha Will is a Professional football player, quarter back for the Seattle Seahawks. He's gorgeous both externally and internally,  tall, lean, muscular, powerful, in control, rich, genuine and loving. In my perception, Will isn't a bad boy or play boy, I think he's the ideal man. He loves Meg for her mind, body and soul; she's the only woman for him. He's the type of man who is loyal, dedicated, and trustworthy. I love how he claims, protects, and loves Meg without coming off like an arrogant ass-wipe controlling alpha male.

I'm completely smittin' over Will ;)

My perception of Megan McBride: Naturally beautiful, loving, generous, kind, and sexy Meg loves her job as a Nurse at Seattle Children's Hospital caring for teenagers with cancer. She's not fully open to allowing someone to claim a piece of her heart or admit that they have (other than her kids at the hospital) She has trust issues that have to be overcome, but she's an intelligent, strong, stubborn, and independent woman who knows when she has a good thing going and smart enough not to let it slip through her fingers.

I adore Meg and Will's story. The are such a great couple, both wonderful human beings who are very much deserving of each other. Their beautiful story made my heart happy.

This the second Kristen Proby book I've read and by far my favorite! It's a must read!

About the Author:
Kristen Proby has made a living as a massage therapist, a medical biller, a registrar in an Emergency Room, and a professional photographer. But what feeds her soul is writing romantic, erotic love stories about strong women who don’t necessarily need saving, and gorgeous, alpha-type men who want to save them anyway.
Kristen lives in the amazing Pacific Northwest where, conveniently, her muse lives too.
Kristen loves hearing from readers!

Excerpt:
“Is this really what you want to do all day?” I ask, lounging at the
end of his couch. I’m in one of his old Seahawks jerseys and his
boxer-briefs, since I don’t have any clothes here, and my hair is up
in a knot on my head, no makeup.
Dear God, I must look horrific.
I glance over at Will, on the opposite side of the long, plush black
leather couch. It’s really unfair that he looks so good in just
basketball shorts and an old t-shirt.
“Why, is there somewhere you wanted to go?” he asks and flips through
channels on his uber-huge television. We are in his media room, full
of plush furniture, the outrageously enormous television – dear God,
is he blind? Who needs a TV this big? – Seahawks memorabilia, a wet
bar, a pool table. Basically a big ol’ man cave where boys can hang
out and do boy things.
“No, I’m just surprised.” I lean back and plop my feet in his lap,
getting more comfortable. He immediately wraps one big hand around the
arch of my foot and rubs with his thumb and I sigh in contentment.
“It’s nice to relax once in a while. We haven’t really just hung out
together much.” He offers me a soft smile, and my stomach flips, just
a little. Gosh, he’s pretty to look at.
And he’s right. It feels good to be lazy. I’m still super tired from
last night at work, and just lounging in Will’s extraordinary home
with him all day is relaxing and perfect.
“Are we okay,” he murmurs, drawing my attention. His eyes are sober,
and he’s watching me closely.
I turn my head to the side and offer him a half smile. “Yeah, we’re okay.”
He just nods and flips the channels to a show about whales on the
Discovery channel.
“I’m hungry,” he announces.
“You’re always hungry,” I laugh and kick his thigh gently. “You just
had a huge sandwich an hour ago.”
“Let’s order in pizza.”
“Let’s go get the pizza and bring it back,” I suggest.
“I like having you here, in my jersey, in my house, where I don’t have
to share you and you don’t have to share me and we can just be.”
“Be what?” I ask.
“Us.” He pulls me into his lap and kisses me senseless, plunging his
fingers into my hair and moving those amazing lips over mine. Then,
just as suddenly as he started, he pushes me back onto the couch and
reaches for his phone. “I’m calling for pizza.”
***
“You are such a fucking cheater!” Will is glaring at me from his
position on the floor, his back against the couch, xBox controller in
his hands. God, he’s adorable when he’s irritated with me.
“I am not!”
“All you’re doing is pushing all the buttons at once and waving the
controller all about,” he accuses me. He’s right. I have no idea how
to play this shit, and making him crazy is hilarious.
“It’s called strategy, Mr. Football Star.” I bat my eyelashes at him
and laugh as his scowl deepens.
“You’ve never played this, have you?”
“Madden Two Thousand Thirty-Four? No.”
“It’s Madden 2013, smart ass.” Now he’s laughing at me. God, he’s fun.
“I’m still kicking your Seahawk ass. The guy with your name on the
jersey looks nothing like you, by the way.” I pick up my soda and sip
from the straw. We are surrounded by junk food. Pizza boxes, chip
bags, cookie containers, you name it. It looks like a
twelve-year-old’s birthday party exploded in here.
It’s fucking fun as hell.
“It’s a video game, babe, not a music video.”
I throw a chip at him, hitting him in the head, and he turns to glare
at me. “Did you just hit me in the head with a freaking Dorito?”
“No.” I shake my head innocently and back up on the couch as he lays
the controller on the coffee table and turns to me.
“Liar.”
“You deserved it, smart ass.”
“I know what you deserve.” He kneels in front of me, grabs my hands
and pulls me toward him and then in one swift move, pulls his jersey
up over my head. “I don’t think you can borrow this anymore.”
“Fine.” I lean back against the couch again and cross my arms over my
naked chest, covering up my breasts. Will’s lips twitch but he holds
his smile back and gives me a mock-glare and grips his black shorts at
my hips and yanks them down my legs and throws them over his left
shoulder.
I think they land in the salsa.
“Those are mine, too,” he murmurs, his eyes glassing over as he sweeps
his gaze from my face down my body.
I move to cross my legs, but he holds them still, hands on my thighs,
and pushes himself up between them so his pelvis rests against my own
and his lips are inches from my face.
“Do you know how beautiful you are?” he asks softly.
I shrug, my smart mouth having suddenly left me, and just stare up
into Will’s sea-blue eyes.
“So beautiful,” he murmurs and kisses my forehead, my nose, over to my
dimple. “I love this dimple. Makes you look so innocent.” He smiles
against my cheek and kisses it again. “Of course, I know differently.”
I chuckle and slide my hands up under his t-shirt, over the smooth
muscles of his back. “Get naked.”
“I will.” He kisses his way over to my neck and runs his hand down my
face to my breast to tease my nipple. I suck in a breath and squirm
beneath him.
“Naked,” I repeat but he just chuckles and keeps up the torment,
running those hands over my body, those lips down my throat to
continue the torture of my nipples. Oh dear God, that feels good.
“Your skin is so damn soft.” He’s on his knees again, kissing down my
stomach to my navel where he pays special attention. He grips my hips
in his hands, holding onto me, and bites and kisses my stomach,
brushes his nose over it, and then kisses it some more.
Jesus, when did my stomach become an erogenous zone?
He suddenly jerks me to the edge of the couch and pushes my thighs
wider apart and sits back on his heels, just looking at me.
“So damn beautiful,” he repeats. He raises his hand to my face, his
eyes on mine, and runs the backs of his fingers down my cheek, brushes
my lower lip with his thumb, and then traces the pad of his index
finger down the hollow of my throat, down my sternum, my stomach, over
my navel and my pubis.
I can’t move. I’m completely in his trance. For Godsake, we went from
me playfully cheating my ass off on a video game to intense sexual
tension in the matter of seconds.
Suddenly, he turns around and fishes an ice cube out of an empty soda
glass and pushes it into his mouth. His eyes smile up at me before he
lowers his head, and very gently, places a kiss right on my metal. His
cold lips send a zing through my core and I raise my hips in response.
“Holy shit, that’s cold!”
He chuckles and does it again, but this time he slides down, hollows
his cheeks and sucks my lips into his mouth with the cold ice and I
about come apart. I grip his hair in my fists and hold him to me but
he backs out of my grasp and shakes his head.
“Grip the back of the couch with your hands, babe.”
Huh?
“Why?”
“This is going to get intense for you, and it’ll be even more so if
you can’t touch me.” He gently caresses my thigh with his hand. “Trust
me.”
I do.
So I grab the couch above my head and watch him. He smiles
reassuringly and kisses my thigh, then fishes out another ice cube,
but instead of pushing it into his mouth, he spreads my labia with one
hand and, eyes on mine, guides the ice from my anus, through my folds,
and up to my clit.
“Watch this, Megan.”
