Review: Crossfire by Laura Bradley Rede

5 Star Review
Crossfire
(The Darkride Chronicles)
by Laura Bradley Rede
I love this GORGEOUS Cover!
My Review(my personal views and opinions pertaining to Crossfire):
I'm going to start off by saying Crossfire is AMAZING! I absolutely loved loved loved this novel!
It grabbed a hold of my psychi and held it captive, pulling me into the supernatural world. When a book can have that affect on me, where I'm not just reading the book, I feel like I'm actually living it, it's pretty darn awesome!
Crossfire is the continuation of the paranormal novel Darkride. It picks up right where we left the characters in Darkride, in Ander's van heading to Maine.
Each of the characters have well defined characteristics, which makes it easy to form a connection with them individually. I connected with most of the characters, being particularly fond of Cicely & Ander, but they were all fantastic in their own way.
Characteristics that I felt each of the characters embodied:
  • Cicely- strong willed, loving, and faithful, willing to stare in the face of danger in the name of love, never letting go or giving up
  • Ander- brave, considerate, and strong(physically & emotionally), willing to put his desires and life on the line to ensure the safety of the ones he loves
  • Luke- dapper and debonair, willing to go to great lengths for the women he loves
  • Emmie- caring, generous, and likable, willing to fight in someone else's war to save the lives of friends & strangers
  • Five- mysterious and vague, willing to help her friends discover their future, but not selflessly
  • D.J.- naive and moody, willing to do what ever it takes to be on top
  • Naomi- warm, loving and optimistic, willing to take big risk to find the love she lost
Naomi is a new character, one we didn't meet in Darkride. I have to admit, she annoyed me with her actions, but towards the end of the book my feelings began to shift, by the end she fully redeemed herself in my eyes. Although, I never could completely dislike her because she was extremely helpful and a safe haven for the other characters, for that I had to give her respect and appreciation.

I formed an attachment to Cicely, anything or anyone who threatened her, rubbed me the wrong way. I wanted to defend and protect her, but Ander & Luke had it under control.

The one character that I wasn't able to connect with was D.J. Although I felt sorry for him in a sense, his behavior and actions (one in particular) were the reasons I really couldn't like kid.

Crossfire is beautifully written, full of passion and emotion. Laura Bradley Rede did a wonderful job tying all the loose ends together, making the story complete. I was so pleased with the ending, even as I read the acknowledgements at the end of the book, I felt emotional. It is obvious that Laura puts her heart and soul into her writing, as a reader you can feel it through the characters and storyline.
I am a fairly new reader of the paranormal/supernatural/fantasy genre. I now completely consider myself a fan. I never imagined that I would view a vampire bite as sensual, but that's exactly what I felt when Luke bit his love interests. Vampires and Werewolves are absolutely *Swoon-Worthy*! Ander & Luke fit that mold perfectly!
As I read through Darkride and Crossfire I began to perceive an alternate meaning from this story, it really came together for me at the end of the novel: That we as a people can come together, setting our differences aside, accepting, trusting, believing in, and loving each other and by doing so, together we can accomplish unimaginable feats.
Darkride & Crossfire(The Darkride Chronicles) are absolute must reads! I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed these novels.
Favorite Quote:
"No one would blame you for guarding your heart, Ander. You've lost a lot of people in your young life, and you don't want to lose any more. And yes, if you love her, you may loser her, tomorrow or next week or eighty years from now. You will. But you will never really lose her because you let her in. You loved her. And we never really lose what we truly love." <3 ~Danny

Beachy, Sexy, Romantic & Fun!

Blurb
Cohen Rodriguez, Deo’s hilarious and loyal best friend in LENGTHS, has always been über responsible. He’s kept a steady job, is a generally nice guy, and has had the same steady girlfriend for years. But when she breaks up with him because he's 'not impulsive enough,' Cohen's burned up.

But, just maybe, she’s more right than he wants to admit.

So he starts to date.

A lot.

And he meets some really fun, crazy, smart, weird girls. But no one really feels like the one, and the more girls he dates, the more Cohen’s convinced she isn’t really out there.

Luckily he has Maren— the girl with the sexy voice who always cracks the best jokes, and who Cohen can talk to about anything, even all of his recent dating mishaps. They've been talking daily for a year…on the phone. They talk about orders for work at first, but eventually Cohen finds out that Maren loves baseball and Thai food and she loves going to the beach in the winter and sketching. He looks forward to his talks with Maren, because, like everything else in his life, they’re safe.

Then she asks him.

Do you want to meet?

It's one thing to chat for an hour or two every day. Meeting face to face could ruin the one and only stable, fun woman in his life.

Or it could be the best thing that's ever happened to him.

Cohen has to decide if he's ready to let go of his comfortable fantasy and embrace the girl who can change his luck in love.

5 Star Review: Darkride by Laura Bradley Rede

5 Star Review
DARKRIDE
by Laura Bradley Rede
Darkride
The Darkride Cover is Gorgeous!

Darkride description from Amazon.com
Ander McNair used to be the favorite son of a great monster-hunting family – until he was bitten by a werewolf and the hunter became the hunted. Now anything that makes his pulse race, even a kiss from his girlfriend Cicely, is enough to turn him into a monster. When he finally has his chance to earn his cure by killing a vampire prince, Ander finds he has to choose between his own past and the future of the girl he loves. Can a guy who’s not even human learn what it means to be a man?

Luke Marianez used to be an immortal vampire prince – until the witch he loved betrayed him and cursed him with the ability to die. Now he lives in the world of vampire blood bars where the waitresses are the drinks, and dreams about killing the last of the witch’s line so he can live forever. But revenge doesn’t just mean breaking the curse. He wants to break the girl's heart, too. Can Luke seduce Cicely without falling in love himself?

Cicely Watson doesn’t believe in werewolves or vampires. She’s not even sure she believes in true love. But she’s about to discover what every werewolf knows:

People change.

My Review
This review for is everyone, but especially those who may be skeptics when it comes to the paranormal/supernatural romance genre. Apprehension, is a one word description of the way I once felt about this genre. Being that in my day to day life vampires, werewolves, witches, and the living dead are not necessarily beings that I believe in or that I relate to. I wasn't sure that I would be able to connect with the characters and believe their story and I need that from the stories I read in order to fully enjoy and appreciate them. For that reason I stayed away from the paranormal/supernatural genre for a while. Thankfully, I live fairly open-mindedly. The saying 'Don't kick it til' ya try it' comes to mind. My apprehension was solely based on ignorance. Ignorance is: simply not knowing or lack of knowledge. I am certain that many other readers out there have or have had the same skeptical pretenses that I once had towards the paranormal genre. Fiction is fiction whether the story pertains to human characters or supernatural characters or both...all are the creation of the author's imagination...and perceived by the reader's imagination.

Darkride is a lengthy novel that captivates your attention from beginning to end. I was sucked into this mysterious, creative, imaginative, intriguing, dangerous world. A world in which humans, vampires, werewolves, witches, and live the living dead exists. I became apart of that world...and I completely BELIEVED! I believed in the characters, the dangers, and the love.

Cicely is a skeptic a non-believer of supernatural being, but her life is turned upside down and her disbelief is transformed as is she. She is in love with her best friend Ander, but is unable to share her feelings with him because she knows he is emotionally resistant to her, but she doesn't understand why. Ander has a deep dark secret that he as been able to keep from Cicely for years, by not allowing himself to be anything more than friends with her. A secret that she is soon to discover.
Enters: Luke!...Gorgeous, charming, chivalrous, and perfect, Luke. Luke has less than admirable loving intentions with Cicley, but those intentions change. A love triangle quickly forms between Cicely and her two supernatural male admirers. There need for her means everything to them...including life and death. They are willing to risk everything for her.

Cicely loves Ander, she's loved him for years and nothing is going to change that not even the revelation of his secret. Cicely is drawn to Luke in away that feels natural as if there is a connection between them with depth and years of existence. She doesn't understand the connection and as it grows is reluctant to admit she loves him. I believe it's mainly due to her stubborn nature and refusal to betray Ander.

Ander and Luke are on opposite ends of the supernatural spectrum. They live to hate each other...live to kill each other...each believing the other is the bad guy.

In this compelling love story the saying 'Love Conquers All' couldn't rein more true. Enemies coexist and join forces to protect the one they have a mutual need and love for. They turn against their own, and risk everything to ensure her safety. ...It truly is a beautiful concept. <3

The characters go to hell in back throughout the story. They are on a dangerous journey, a quest in the name of Love. A true, undeniable, need, mind, body and soul to be with the one they absolutely cannot be without in life or death.

The sequel Crossfire is available now! I cannot wait to see what happens with these characters!...I'll be starting it today!

I recommend Darkride to everyone who enjoys a good read...This book offers a beautiful love story and so much more!

It's a Must Read...

Up To Me by M. Leighton 5 Star Review

Up To Me by M. Leighton
5 Star Review
Up to Me (The Bad Boys)
Book Description from Amazon.com

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author M. Leighton comes the highly anticipated sequel to Down to You.

Happily ever after doesn’t come easy. But for love, it’s always worth the fight.

Olivia finds bliss unlike any she’s ever known in Cash’s arms. He sets her skin on fire and melts her heart right inside her chest. Unfortunately, their happily ever after is short-lived when a shadow from Cash’s past threatens to turn their world upside down.

Dangerous people from his father’s world have discovered that Cash holds information that could put them away for a very long time. And they’re willing to do anything—and hurt anybody—to get it back. Giving it up means Cash must choose between the life of his father and the life of Olivia.

Having nearly overcome her wariness of bad boys, Olivia’s trust is shaken when this new threat arises. Now she finds that Cash is not only a danger to her heart, but his family has associations that are a danger to her life as well. She soon discovers that there are some situations in life where trust is a girl’s only option. And this is one of them. If she’s to live, she must trust Cash with her life. But to Olivia, that’s much, much easier than letting go and trusting him with her heart.

My Review

Up To Me is the 2nd book in The Bad Boys Series by M. Leighton, Down To You being the 1st book.

A little Recap: We met Cash Davenport a sexy, tattooed, motorcycle riding, club owning bad boy and his twin brother Nash Davenport a clean cut, lawyer who is the polar opposite of Cash in every way except in the looks department. Olivia Townsend is kind of a plain Jane, college student with nothing really extraordinary about her. She finds herself in a love triangle with both Cash and Nash.
If you haven't read Down To You, I recommend you do!

Up To Me doesn't skip a beat, picking up right where Down To You left off. There is a huge surprise/twist in store for both the reader and the majority of the characters in this story. For me, it was a welcomed surprise that I did not see coming.

There is no denying that Cash Davenport is one delicious bad boy! Olivia Townsend is the only female that has ever been able to break through his bad boy exterior and take hold of his heart. Although Cash and Olivia have an intense need for and attraction to each other, both are terrified to completely accept and admit their feelings. Olivia is worried that Cash will end up being just another bad boy who breaks her heart. Cash never allows women to permeate his exterior, he doesn't have time for that. He's afraid that letting someone in will make him weak and he is determined to stay focused on his mission to prove is father's innocence.

In this book, we see a transformation in Olivia's stone cold, snob of a cousin Marissa. Olivia's wise cracking slightly perverse best friend Ginger makes a few appearances in the story. She is hilarious! I'd like to see more of her in the next book, just because her humor helps lighten the sometimes intense theme.

M. Leighton is an amazingly talented writer, as expected with this book she does not disappoint. The storyline is intriguing, keeping you interested and wanting more, suspenseful, dangerous, action packed, sexual, and funny.

I love Cash and Olivia's developing relationship. All things considered, the secrets, the troublesome journey, reservations, weaknesses, pride, attraction, need, jealousy, lust and love, they are a beautiful couple. <3 We get to witness the bond between Cash & Olivia strengthen and grow throughout this book, which is probably my favorite aspect about the book...I'm a sucker for the love story!

Up To Me is well worth it, so go get it and enjoy!

Favorite Quotes:

"Cash's cover might be that of a bad boy, but the book, the inside is so much more." ~Olivia

"Trust in what you know about me. Because I know, if you stop listening to your fear, you know who I am. Deep down. You know me, Olivia. You know me." ~Cash

"When he lifts his head, his eyes meet mine. I'm not sure what they say, but I think my heart understands." ~Olivia

"Okay, then I used to like that kind of thing. Now I like your kind of thing. It's the very best kind of thing. Makes all other kinds of things look like shit." ~Cash

"Wrapped up in him, in his bad boy ways and his good guy heart, is my whole world. Somehow, while I wasn't looking, I fell. And I fell hard. For my soul mate. For the love of my life. For my hero." ~Olivia

"I can tell you how. This isn't about Marissa. It never was. It's about you. Keeping you safe. I'm not in love with her. I'm in love with you. Can't you understand that I don't want to live without you? That I can't live without you? What the hell would I do if something happened to you? I couldn't let you come here with her by yourself. I couldn't take the risk. I'll never take the risk if the risk is losing you. Never. Why can't you understand that?" ~Cash

Happy Reading =)

4 -4.5 Steamy Hot Star Review 'Fight With Me' by Kristen Proby

Fight With Me (With Me In Seattle)

Book Description, Amazon.com

Jules Montgomery is too busy and content with her life to worry about a man, especially one Nate McKenna. If growing up with four brothers has taught her anything, she knows to stay away from sexy men with tattoos and motorcycles. That goes double if he's your boss. During the one incredible night they shared, he violated the no fraternization policy...among other things, and it won't happen again. Jules won't risk her career for mind-blowing sex, no matter how much her body and her damn heart keep arguing with her.

Nate McKenna could give a shit about the no fraternizing policy. He wants Jules and he'll have her. The rules could bend around them, or be damned. He's not a man to be taken lightly, and Jules Montgomery is about to find out just how he responds to being pushed aside after the best night of sex he's ever had. She can fight all she wants, but he'll have her in his bed in the end.

FIGHT WITH ME is the second novel in the With Me In Seattle Series.

My Review
~I haven't read 'Come Away With Me' book one in the With Me in Seattle Series, so I truly went into this book blind. Reading book one first would have most definitely gave me more insight and understanding to some of the characters and their relationships with each other, but the author provided enough information that you figure it out.
The book starts off with a bang, no pun intended...
The prologue introduces us to Julianne Montgomery and Nate McKenna, co-workers, in fact he is her boss...having a summer rendezvous. Julianne freaks out afterwards because the company they work for has a no fraternizing policy. She knows they both would be fired if anyone found out. She waits until Nate is asleep and slips off in the middle of the night.

Julianne manages to steer clear of Nate for 8 months at work and otherwise, that is until she receives and email from him asking her to work late. Despite her efforts she is unable to keep herself from not being attracted to and wanting to be with Nate. She finds herself thinking back to their one night of lust 8 months earlier. She is no longer able to resist the incredibly hot, sexy, and beautiful man in front of her. Nate propositioned her and she could not refuse him. He convinces her to stop thinking about what anyone else will say or do and allow herself to follow her hearts desires and be with him.

Their relationship escalates quickly. There is no denying they had an incredibly intense attraction to each other from the get go. The question for me was: Is there more to it than sexual desire?

50% of the way through the book I found myself asking:
Is there such a thing as too many sex scenes?
Because if that is possible this book is boarding that line closely.

Personally, a story has to be more than great sex to grab my attention. There has to be that element of immense need and love...mind, body, and soul. Don't get me wrong the sex scenes are amazing, but I need the love story; that's what moves me. What can I say, I'm a hopeless romantic.

Lust is certainly front and center, but underneath that their is much more to their attraction. They have a deeper need for each other, which became more and more evident as the story progressed and is particularly evident in scenes like this where Julianne says:
"He pulls me into him, wrapping his arms around me and pressing my head to his chest, and I feel so loved. This is not sexual at all, I feel cherised."
At 80% the story went from good to great. I began to fall in love with them and their story. Their relationship began to blossom and gain more depth. They were faced with an ordeal that proved to be a testament to their love. Sacrifices were made and I was a pleased reader.

The epilogue was fantastic, my favorite part of the book! Nate Mckenna is an unbelievably sexy, sweet, kind, respectful/respectable, successful, swoon-worthy specimen of a man.

He had me with this quote:
"I love you, Julianne. I've loved you for a long time. You and I are a team, in every way. You amaze me with your strength, with your kindness, and the love you show everyone around you, including me."

...sigh <3 I mean what woman doesn't want a man who feels that way about her and can actually express those feeling.

So, go grab this ebook at the link below for $2.99  or add it to your TBR list, either way read it! You won't be disappointed! This was one steamy hot enjoyable read!

http://www.amazon.com/Fight-With-Me-Seattle-ebook/dp/B00AV9FIXE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1358027200&sr=8-2&keywords=fight+with+me

I hope you enjoyed this review; it's my very first stab a true review! Happy Reading! =)

1st post as a newbie blogger...history and intentions, blah, blah, blah

I am new to this whole blogging thing...being a novice it will take me some time to figure out what I am doing, but I promise I'll get :)

This blog will be centered around contemporary romance, erotica, and young adult books...maybe a few other genres here and there as my reading palette expands.

I started reading in July of 2012 when my dear friend introduced me to 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. It was a WHOA! this is what I've been missing out on kind of moment. I am slightly ashamed that it took me until I was 31 years old to discover the wonder of reading for pleasure and enjoyment. I haven't stopped reading since and have no plans to stop, ever! I have read over 55 books since July and hope to read at least 100 books this year, 2013.

My intentions are to connect with others' who enjoy reading, review books, and give & receive suggestions.

*Reading takes me places I never knew existed*
*Reading is my safe & healthy escape from the constraints of reality*
